Lindsay Pitts, DPT, Bringing Expertise in Pelvic Health to Girard Medical Center
Girard Medical Center is thrilled to offer new services in our Physical Therapy Department. Our new Physical Therapist, Lindsay Pitts, DPT brings a wealth of expertise with advanced training in pelvic health. Her arrival is an exciting development for our community, as we expand our services to offer comprehensive care to individuals experiencing pelvic floor disorders.
Pelvic floor disorders are more common than you might think, impacting up to 25% of adults. Factors such as age, pregnancy, post-pregnancy changes, and chronic constipation contribute to these issues, which can significantly affect one's quality of life. But with Lindsay Pitts on board, there's a new reason for hope. Her advanced training in this field enables her to offer a unique and highly effective treatment option for individuals facing issues such as urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, pelvic pressure, sexual problems, and pelvic organ prolapse.
But what exactly is Pelvic Floor Therapy, and how does it work?
The pelvic floor is a complex network of 26 muscles that form the base of the pelvis, extending from the pubic bone to the tailbone. These muscles play vital roles, such as supporting pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, prostate, rectum), stabilizing the pelvis and spine, enhancing sexual function, and assisting with bowel and bladder control. Like any other muscles in the body, the pelvic floor muscles can become weak, tight, or dysfunctional, leading to a range of issues.
As an expert in muscle, joint, and nerve functions, Lindsay Pitts, DPT, is well-equipped to address these concerns. Her specialized approach to pelvic health therapy stands out from other physical therapy methods. It begins with a one-on-one consultation where she reviews your medical history, symptoms, and goals, always prioritizing your comfort and privacy.
Following the consultation, Lindsay crafts a personalized treatment plan to address your specific pelvic health needs. This may involve a combination of exercises, stretches, and manual therapy. The number of sessions required will vary, tailored to your symptoms and individual requirements.
At Girard Medical Center, we emphasize the importance of addressing pelvic floor concerns. You don't need to suffer in silence. Just as you would seek care for a shoulder or knee injury, addressing pelvic floor issues is crucial for your overall well-being. We encourage everyone to normalize the conversation around pelvic health and to talk to their primary care provider about any symptoms they may be experiencing.
Lindsay Pitts, DPT, is here to lead our Pelvic Health Therapy program. Her expertise is a valuable addition to our medical center, and her dedication to patient care is evident in her commitment to improving the quality of life for those facing pelvic floor disorders.
New patients are welcome, and to get started, you will need an order from your physician. Our team will evaluate each patient to determine their specific needs and treatment plan.
