Our GMC Team
If there is anyone in our community who does not know who this super nice lady is, you are missing out on “one of the best people in Girard!” That is what her boss and long-time friend, Jerry Hanson, says about this week’s GMC team member pick, Susan Friggeri. She grew up in Farlington and has lived around this area all her life. You will almost always see her with a smile on her face that goes ...along with her very easy-to-love personality.
While lots of people know Susan, they might not see her out in the public eye at GMC. She works “behind the scenes” but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a vital part of our hospital team! Susan is a Medical Technologist. More specifically, she is the chief microbiologist (or in other words, a scientist that studies microorganisms such as bacteria.) She graduated from K-State in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology – she did 3 years of schooling at K-State and one year of training at KU. She decided what she wanted to do with her life in high school and has stuck to it – a rare commodity nowadays!
One of the things she loves best about her job is the cohesiveness of the laboratory team – her coworkers and her boss work together extremely well. She and Jerry have known each other since grade school! After college they worked together at the Fort Scott hospital, and then he hired her in 1988 when she was working at Mt. Carmel. Jerry says she has been a very “stabilizing influence” during her 28 years here. One of the reasons she wanted to come to the Girard hospital is because she wanted her daughters to go to the Girard schools.
Speaking of daughters, she and her husband, Robbie have two of them – Abby and Jill. And they each have 3 girls and one boy. That makes 8 grandchildren for them ranging in age from 1 to 12! Now you know what Susan mostly does in her spare time AND for fun. She and her husband also enjoy getting away in the summer and hiking in Cuchara, Colorado.
Susan is another blessing to Girard Medical Center and we are glad she is part of our team! #OURGMCTEAM
