Senior Behavioral Health
Girard Medical Center's Senior Behavioral Health Program offers two tiers of treatment for people (age 55 years and older) who are struggling to cope with emotional or behavioral issues as they age. Stressors like declining health, loss of autonomy, grief over loved ones passing, and transitioning through changing roles can quickly accumulate and become overwhelming.
Outpatient Program
If you or someone you know is experiencing any of the symptoms below, participation in our outpatient group therapy and medication management services might be helpful in returning to a more enjoyable life:
- Lack of Motivation or Energy
- Avoiding Family or Friends
- Constant Worrying / Anxiety
- Unhealthy Sleep Patterns
- Poor Appetite or Overeating
- Complicated Grief
- Feelings of Sadness or Loneliness
- Loss of Interest in Daily Activities
- Low Self-Esteem
- Change in Temperament
- Stress induced Physical Complaints
Our Approach
At the Senior Behavioral Health outpatient building, East of the hospital, a licensed mental health clinician leads patients through cognitive behavioral group therapy sessions learning how to reduce negative thoughts while replacing them with more accurate / positive thoughts. Our psychiatrist is also available to monitor patient progress and prescribing psychiatric medications, as needed.
Inpatient Program
For those individuals experiencing more acute symptoms, like those listed below, an inpatient admission for medication adjustment services may more adequately meet their needs:
- Constant Worrying / Anxiety
- Depression
- Confusion / Memory Loss
- Suicidal or Homicidal Thoughts / Attempts
- Hallucinations / Delusions
- Destructive / Aggressive Behavior
- Needing time to adjust to Psychotropic Medications
Our Approach
With our care provided on the Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit, we believe in the team approach. We work with the patient and his/her family or caregiver(s) under the guidance of our multi-disciplinary team. Nurses, social workers, mental health clinicians and rehabilitation staff, along with the psychiatrist and other physicians will help to provide the patient with individualized care that stresses dignity and respect. Our goal is to help individuals live life to the fullest.
