Girard Medical Center Announces Grand Opening of New 64-Slice CT Machine
Girard Medical Center proudly announces the grand opening of its new 64-slice CT machine. This significant upgrade will greatly enhance diagnostic capabilities, improve patient experience, and expand the clinical services available to the region. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today to celebrate this significant milestone, made possible by the extraordinary efforts of the Girard Medical Center Foundation and the community's steadfast support.
The new 64-slice CT scanner brings advanced, high-quality imaging to Girard, offering:
- High-resolution cardiac CT for improved heart and vascular assessments
- Faster stroke detection and rapid emergency imaging
- Enhanced trauma imaging with detailed multi-slice views
- Lower-dose, faster pediatric imaging
- Greater diagnostic precision for cancer, chronic disease, and internal injuries
“With the addition of the 64-slice CT, we can deliver faster, more accurate diagnoses and elevate the overall level of care we provide,” said Kelly Schultz, Radiology Director at Girard Medical Center. “This technology is a tremendous asset for our patients and allows rural healthcare to meet the growing demands of modern medicine.”
This critical upgrade was made possible by the remarkable fundraising efforts of the Girard Medical Center Foundation, which raised $236,376.00. These funds not only enabled the purchase of the new CT machine but also supported additional improvements within the Radiology Department.
Significant support came from several regional philanthropic partners, including:
- The Southeast Kansas Community Foundation, which administers the Mount Carmel Foundation Legacy Grant – $25,000.00
- The Girard Area Community Foundation, also a fund under the Southeast Kansas Community Foundation – $10,000.00
- The Pritchett Trust – $25,000.00
Additional significant funding was provided through generous community donations and proceeds from the GMCF 2025 Run for the Roses Dinner & Silent Auction, which raised more than $175,000.00 for this project.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and vision of the Girard Medical Center Foundation, our donors, and the regional foundations that invest in the health of our community,” said Travis Battagler, CEO of Girard Medical Center. “This new CT machine represents our commitment to providing exceptional healthcare close to home and ensuring our patients have access to advanced diagnostic technology.”
The Girard Medical Center Foundation Board Members played a vital role in coordinating fundraising initiatives, securing grants, and rallying community support. Their dedication and leadership were instrumental in bringing this project to completion.
Girard Medical Center extends its most profound appreciation to all partners, donors, grantors, and community members who made this achievement possible. Together, we continue to strengthen and advance healthcare for families across the region.
